Installing The Latest Nvidia Drivers on a W520

The Nouveau drivers installed by default for Quantal Quetzal on the ThinkPad W520 are not good enough. Most significantly, the display would be garbage when opening the lid after sleeping. The only solution would be to Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get a console, log in and reboot.

A source to Install and Configure Latest Nvidia Drivers in Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal indicates to simply run the following:

% sudo apt-get install linux-source
% sudo apt-get install linux
% sudo apt-add-repository ppa:noobslab/nvidia-quantal
% sudo apt-get update
% sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

After a reboot, closing to sleep and opening again correctly restores the system to a screen saver.
